I’m going to share with you a funny story from a bridal shoot I did a couple weeks ago. But you have to promise not to look at my butt in these photos – or the pink iPhone case sticking out of my back pocket (seriously, what was I thinking?). Pinky swear!
This is a final image of Jenna, one of our lovely, lovely brides. I love Jenna’s sassy short hair and the feather clip on the side. So pretty, modern, but classic. So let’s pull back from this scene and I’ll show you how we got here.
Here I am finding just the right spot for Jenna to stand. (Did you notice the HORSE in the background? Spoiler alert: Riley is going to steal the show.)
Look at that pose, create some curves, slim the body. Pop your hip out like so. I’m working it! You have to admit it.
Oh and then lift up the dress and be so cute. We had such a great plan. What do you think is going to happen next?
And here comes Riley . . . I’m shooting, shooting, shooting, not phased by this at all.
OK, we now have a horse in the frame . . . we’ll deal with it. No problem. I’ll shoot tighter, change angles, something.
And he’s getting closer and closer.
And Jenna is thinking, um, now what?
Then Riley is all, hey baby, wanna kiss?
That was a surprise. Still not phasing me. Shooting, shooting. Never stop shooting; right? That’s what I’ve been taught. Never stop shooting.
Jenna’s got her composure back, we’re back to our plan. But here comes Riley. What’s that you have in your hand photographer lady?
Can I lick your camera? And that’s exactly what he did. The horse, Riley, licked my camera WHILE I WAS SHOOTING. Never stop shooting!
In the end, I got this beautiful shot of Jenna with a genuine smile on her face. Exactly what I wanted. Riley knew what I wanted all along.
Thank you to Chamonix Thurston-Rattue for capturing this scene for me. It’s fun to show what happens behind the scenes.
